Last Thursday on Spike TV MMA Uncensored Stephon Bonner was a guest on the show and asked fans to harass Dana White to make Bonner and Forrest Griffin coaches on The Ultimate Fighter. Now no one can argue that the biggest fight in UFC and MMA history is Forrest Griffin’s win over Bonner in Season 1 of The Ultimate Fighter.
The question is do we the fans want to see the sequel? My answer is no. Now before you tell me about what a great fight they put on the first time hear me out. I saw the fight so I am well aware how great it was. My problem is this. Both fighters have had up and down careers with Bonner’s being more down since they came to the UFC. If you could guarentee a fight just as good as the first then I would say do it. You can’t guarentee that however. Why take a chance of tarnishing something truly remarkable in MMA history?
Nobody really talks about these two second fight which also went to a Decision. Forrest won both fights so this is not a Rubber match type of deal here. With Griffin signed to fight Tito Ortiz on July 7 in Tito’s last fight of his career a third fight with Bonner is unlikely.
Another fight Bonner mentioned that would be likely to happen is Rampage Jackson. It could be Bonner’s last shot at a big fight. Lets face it the guy hasnt exactly tore it up against elite fighters. His wins include James Irvin, Keith Jardine, and Krzysztof Soszynski. His losses include plenty of big names like Forrest, Mark Coleman, Rashad Evans, Lyoto Machida, and Jon Jones.
I just can’t see the Trilogy fight being a big buy for UFC fans.
